Maarten Nijhof, Director of Biocomp Nepal and Reclaim Nepal, chose Sustainable Digital to help with the visual brand development and website design and creation for both organisations.

Maarten shared the story.

What challenges prompted you to work with Sustainable Digital?

‘At first we just needed a new website for the Biocomp business.  There was a lack of resources locally in Nepal and those able to do the work were too costly.  On looking around we found initial 8 or 10 designers, finally homing in on Sustainable Digital - due to the quality of work yes but also due to the way Bob and team communicated with me from day one.  Straight away I felt it would work - Bob was highly responsive and straightforward. There was very little of the unnecessary process (that often seems to come with marketing and web suppliers) getting in the way of just getting started.

Early on in the process we identified that a refresh of the visual brand would add huge value to our presence in Nepal. Bob explained the broader skill set and service offering in the team and from there engaged Sharon, their brand expert, in the process.

We delved into values, ethos, ethics, goals and cultural influences as well as our plans to expand beyond recycling natural waste and compost products to the secondary line of business in recycling low grade plastics.  For this new business we needed a name too and Sharon worked closely with me to create that and complimentary visual brand identities for Biocomp Nepal and what became Reclaim Nepal.  It was a fascinating process and the result is fantastic.  The impact of the new brand is proving invaluable in terms of establishing awareness and credibility in Nepal and supporting funding applications and the like.

I continue to get a lot of positive feedback and compliments on the logo from partners and people I collaborate with.  I didn’t expect this value add at the outset - it was a great surprise to find such a range of skills in what I thought was a small web outfit; it’s a unique and really nice set up that Sustainable Digital has.

The website project itself has gone brilliantly - Roxanne has been my point of contact and she is great to work with and has done a good job in helping shape the site content to accurately convey what the company is doing, drive product sales and inbound calls and enquiries from international investor and donor organizations.  We have incorporated Nepalese language for local audiences and managed to make the site work for both the locals and international audiences - quite an ask but I am very happy with the result.

We are nearly there with the Reclaim website now and once launched it is really going to help demonstrate the progress we are making.  In a country where only 13% of businesses returned fully post-covid and foreign direct investment has dropped out by 93%, our brand and proposition need to stand out more than ever and will be pivotal in helping us continue to flourish.

What do you like about the Sustainable Digital approach?

What I really like about the SD approach is that it is very personal - not over regulated or formal.  The team is really flexible and not the kind of supplier who is asking you for more budget at every turn.

I would definitely recommend SD (and have several organizations in mind 🙂); the mix of services is great - the team has the full range of marketing competencies - and without having to work with a big organization, layers of management etc. - you just work with the specialist for that particular task or project.

Everyone in the team is also very respectful and they have a shared set of ethics - it’s refreshing and sits well with our ethos too; it’s great to work with others who want to do good in the world.

Oftentimes people say they are going to do something but don't - these guys really do what they say they are going to do, and they really enjoy their work.  This combination makes a huge difference to experience and the result.”
